Above San Francisco

From the deep blue waters of the Bay to the breathtaking Pacific coastline to the verdant hills and redwood groves just across the Golden Gate bridge, San Francisco is surrounded by natural beauty.

But the city itself is just as vibrant and visually stunning, with its steep hills, cable cars, picturesque skyline, and wonderful stores, restaurants, and other attractions.

I've lived in California for 20 years, including stints in San Diego, Los Angeles, and, of course, San Francisco. I've also worked in travel and traveled throughout the world myself, but I have yet to see a city more beautiful than San Francisco.

On this site, I will share with you:

  • The one spot where you can get the very best view of the city and the bay.
  • The best place to stay if you are visiting on a budget.
  • The place you can see buffalo roaming - within the city limits!
  • The way you can get around, from the ocean to downtown without a car!

I love San Francisco, and I know you will too. And if you are like me, once you visit, you will want to return again and again.

Golden Gate Bridge

Of course, the many attractions to not end at the city limits. There is a tremendous variety of things to do in the San Francisco vicinity.

In fact, within 30 minutes of downtown are the amazing Pacific coastline, from Half Moon Bay in the south to Marin Headlands in the north, the panoramic views form the peaks of Mt. Tamalpais and Mt. Diablo, and the primordial redwood forests of Muir Woods.

Within an hour or so of downtown are the picturesque wine country of Napa Valley, the absolutely amazing coastline of Point Reyes, and the hip, fun Santa Cruz area, with its famous roller coaster, boardwalk, shops, and beaches.

Golden Gate Park

Golden Gate Park (above) is one of the world's truly great urban parks, complete with museums, lakes, forests, sports, wildlife, hikes, and even buffalo. Take a picnic lunch and make it a day in the park - it is my favorite place in the city.

There are far too many San Francisco attractions to list on one page, but as you explore this site, I hop you will begin to appreciate, how dynamic, beautiful, and amazing this city and region truly are.
